Nice. Thanks all of this is super helpful. Altho one thing that kind of drove me crazy... while I was listening I clicked one of the resource links, and was expecting this site to have been coded to have those open in a new window - but no. And now I'm sitting here waiting for the podcast to rebuffer. Still.

If you could make the resource links open in a new tab that would be totally fab :)

And great stuff, I'm surprised people aren't swarming here by the millions... yet :)

Thanks so much for your feedback! I just updated the links so this won't be a problem in the future!

Just tell your friends about us! I'm glad to hear it's helpful!

Thanks Kevin :)

I have a little more feedback for the future of the Inner Tube. If you want it, read on. If not just ignore me haha.

From experience as a graphic designer, I can relate to your and Josh's fields of expertise, just in a different way. Our fields are kind of like cousins. So for me, if I was doing a podcast on graphic media and just did what you guys did (recommending software), I think the next most helpful thing for the audience would be how to do specific things. Like for example, pretend I did do that podcast thing (which actually isn't a half bad idea.... hmmm....). I just put out an audio on software recommendations (I would probably recommend Photoshop for people with money and Gimp for people without haha). My next move would be putting out tips on how to do certain tasks, probably with the freeware since that is what most people would download. So for instance, in the next few episodes, I might do, "Getting Started in Gimp" "How To Do Basic Photo Edits" "Working With Text" "Producing Images for the Web" etc. It's by no means extensive but at least people know how to do some stuff with their new resources and are moving along in bettering their output/product. Okay, example over, on to the original thought....

I know nothing about audio editing. And when I heard about Reaper, I was like, "Oh, sweet. Now I can tinker with that." But alas I know how to do absolutely nothing with it, so the helpfulness of the resource is pretty close to nil. In the same manner as the example, it would be awesome to see "tutorials" on how to do basic things with the freeware. Like, "How to Remove Background Noise" and stuff like that. Then we can at least get into audio editing at some level.

Okay that's all. I hope I don't come across as "ew, change this. that's terrible. bla bla bla." because that's totally not what I'm trying to say. I'm just giving my 2 cents of feedback as a listener.

I'm super excited to watch Inner Tube grow and think it's a great idea. Thanks so much for devoting your time and effort into helping us wanna-be content creators! This is an awesome resource!

Actually Audacity doesn't always start recording on a new track, if you hold the shift key while you click the record button it will record into the current track. :)

Thank you Nathan. I believe we actually address this and your other questions in an upcoming episode. Not this Tuesday. But the next. ;-)

Cool, as somebody that runs an online ministry, mainly videos, I'm interested to see what I can learn and improve.

I have a question regarding audio editing in the case of making a YouTube video.
Since basic audio editing is built into the video editor (final cut pro x in my case) do you really need a seperate program to edit the audio? If you do, won't mess up the sync between the audio (voice) track and the video?

Great stuff, Kevin and Josh!

I've been playing with Reaper for years and it really is a great DAW.

In regards to website building tools, it may be beneficial to listeners if you would take a moment to clarify the difference between WordPress.com and WordPress.org (self hosted version) as I know that it can be confusing and you guys didn't really address that.

Really enjoying the show thus far!

The iPad does have a good mic for you-tubers. if you do it right it can reach low end pro sound. But I don't recommend it.
