This comment reminded me of the Intro to Episode 067, when Kevin came back from hiatus. He acted as his own crier and fanfare to announce his return. :D (Just a bit more flamboyant than Adler would do, unless he was challenged to do so.)

Definitely probably (because those words work together) one of my favorite episodes! There was something about it, it felt so high energy, just so... idk, natural?... It almost made me feel like I was there too... Kinda... Ish... In a sense... But yeah, it is always fun to have guests on the shows, and having this many people was just awesome!

...with the exception that the College Life Music video links to Quirky Couples Cooking again. Other than that, these show notes are some of the best that Corban has put together. They help to make it easy to navigate, which is especially nice for this show. If Adler fans just want to hear that part of the show, they can look at the timestamp and jump there right away. #CorbansShowNotesAreTheBest

Perhaps... perhaps he is not the REAL Josiah... Perhaps he's been taken, and they are using his online alias to gather information. Perhaps YOU'RE all in on it... Perhaps I'm in on it... Perhaps he's been fake this whole time, and this is the real him trying to tell us... Perhaps I'm just tired so I keep typing things out...

Jeff Ross

You might be on to something, Masøn. Perhaps the typo is different than you think... Perhaps it is a mistyping of "Josiah the Carrots Tick" referring to that mythical insect that destroys carrot plants. It's the archenemy of "Josiah the Carrot Stick" and rarely seen leaving positive comments.

Then again, perhaps we're drawing tube many conclusions with the word "perhaps" in it. After all, Mason M., Masøn M., Mas0n M., & Mas[crossy o]n M. turned out to be the same commenter in the Episode 179 comment section.

It was a typo and I hit submit before I noticed it.

I've actually figured out how to avoid that problem. If number lock is on then it backs you outta the page when you do alt-2-4-8. If it's off, it works fine.

I liked this episode, I really did, and I want to discuss some of my thoughts on it. Consequently, I’ll post a plethora of comments here (trying to keep them short) and hope that others reply to them. Jeremiah inspired a really good comment section, so I think that the many guests on this episode can a bigger and better one. Be sure to reply to any of my comments that you agree with, disagree with, or have no opinion on, so that this comment section can have a chance to surpass the record-setting number of comments left on the last episode. Things to look for in my comments below: The JK Show idea, Jordan Taylor appearances, an Aux Cable reference, the most underrated segment of this episode, Daniel Elliot’s YouTube channel, and no mention of donkeys.

Intro: Nice touch having the live studio audience participate. Sometimes in the past, guests have not had the opportunity to participate in the introduction of that episode. (See last week’s show for an example.) I have to ask though: Based on this clip that I found (https://www.youtube.com/v/6C0gHf8ySGs?start=456&end=504), did Kevin actually forget what he was supposed to say or did he script it that way? At least I now know how noisy Barkley’s collar was before Jordan took it off…

Josh said there were roughly 40 people in attendance for this episode, though double that had been at Blimeycon. How big of a room will Josh and Kevin need if they decide to have a live studio audience for an episode next year? Will they go on-location to a bigger facility to accommodate the crowd, or will they risk breaking fire code by piling everyone into Josh’s living room once again? Maybe they’ll have tube r-e-c-o-r-d-i-n-g sessions to accommodate the masses or restrict the audience to certain Patreon tiers. Then again, they might just do a WWBTR episode next year instead, or they could revive the Blimey Cow podcast by next year’s event and do an episode of that. It will be interesting to see and hear what happens.

I thought it was really interesting that Josh had a chat set up for his Patrons that he wasn’t a routinely active participant in. By doing that, he was able to strengthen his Patreon community without an excessive time commitment on his end. Definitely a tip for aspiring content creators: you don’t have to manually foster a community all by yourself. You can plant a seed and let it germinate on its own.

I do think it would be neat if Josh and Kevin did a show regularly with a live studio audience and Josh did introductions for every single guest. I feel like he’d say “he/she needs no introduction” for several of them, but he would enjoy #ThatMomentWhen he could say something to hype the audience’s anticipation before bringing the guest to the microphone while applause filled the space.

The live show could be called “The JK Show” and pitched as “the Tonight Show, but done by homeschooled content creators, during the day, airing monthly, as a podcast.” Matt Langston could be the musical sidekick and Jordan could be a regular guest, being both a celebrity and a person who did the sponsor plugs. The key, though, would be to film as many episodes as possible during Blimeycon, so that the audience would be most favorable. There’s something they could do.

“It made me believe in fate a little bit…” Josh, are you telling us that the whole Inner Tube podcast is a joke? Successful content creation, promotion, and community building is all about fate and happenstance? Sorry, but I’ve been listening to the show tube long to believe that. You can’t look at the outcome and say “Wow, all those steps I took leading to this were just lucky coincidences." #FateNewsIsFakeNews

While I would have enjoyed hearing the explanation of why Josh is supposed to be angry and say “no” when he’s wearing glasses, I don’t think it would have mattered for the Inner Tube, since we usually can’t see whether Josh is wearing glasses or not. (Exceptions include the video episodes: 018, 021, 026, 027, 051, & 175.)

Jordan said that it’s very rare for him to be on the Inner Tube, and he is correct. This was his fourth appearance on this show, previously appearing in Episodes 074, 116, & 163. According to my calculations, this means that Jordan has been on the show approximately TUBE percent of the time. :D

To clarify Adler’s url remarks: The links youtube.com/adlerdmagic and youtube.com/adlerdavidson both link to his channel. He may promote one over the other, but he has both, and I don’t think anyone will be trying to take any of those from him any time soon. His second channel can be found at youtube.com/extraadler and this is where he posts videos that may fit his character but don’t fit into his main channel’s narrative. It’s also where you can find the documentation of him winning a dance contest at vidcon.

I really appreciate getting the Inner Tube Exclusive, Innersclusive (An Innerside Scoop, if you will) on Adler’s video ahead of time. I think that posting consistent content is a little overrated. Staying connected to those who enjoy your content is more important. Just look at the Aux Cable Podcast: The episodes haven’t been releasing as scheduled, but because the hosts have kept communicating with their audience and enabling their audience to communicate with each other, the show has not lost the best of the fans who identify as F.A.C.E.s (Fanatical Aux Cable Enthusiasts).

Christian’s appearance on the show was top notch. Stellar name, great story about him from Kevin, well-thought-out relevant question, and outstanding testimonial of his Patreon experiences. Definitely the most underrated part of this episode (if you base ratings solely on the show notes, which are the best parts of the Inner Tube).

Joe Repp’s question was a little underwhelming. Hopefully this isn’t the last time he appears on the show. Nevertheless, his line of “Adler’s the favorite” might be appearing on the back cover of the next book that Adler publishes. (I’m told that all of the biggest Youtubers publish a book eventually.)

Daniel Elliott has a quick wit and a large vault of references & puns. I just wish that he would have said what his YouTube channel is called. Thankfully for you, I looked it up. It doesn’t have its own url yet, but if you search “mocistone” in YouTube, you’ll find the channel as the first search result. His channel is hilarious, but he doesn’t post often at all. I predict that if his channel hits 16 videos and 160 subscribers by the end of the year, providing that at least 5 of those videos were produced on a consistent basis, Daniel will make it into the Inner Circle. The best part of his channel: His videos are both timely and timeless. :D (You’ll get that joke if you check out his channel.)

For those of you who would rather copy/paste a link instead of searching for his channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCzM_KhqdYImC3KL7V80a7CA

I recommending watching the seven videos from the oldest to the newest, as the videos contain references to each other.

Kevin’s advice of “don’t ask your audience, but pay attention to them” is excellent, because if an idea is good enough (or it comes from a fan passionate enough about your content), your audience will tell you regardless of whether you asked or not. #TrubeNewsb You can always take a suggestion that intrigues you and run it past a mentor, a peer, or your patrons to see if there are any major flaws or unconsidered aspects with the idea that you may have overlooked, if you are concerned that you may accidentally agree to a bad or an incomplete idea. In the end, though, it does come down to what your intentions for the channel are and what you are able to accomplish.

In case you were wondering, Zach and Kevin have differing political philosophies, and both of them feel that Scriptural principles prove their sides to be the correct one. That’s why a WWBTR episode featuring the tube of them would be difficult to produce.

Fun fact: The previous record-holder of most people in a single Inner Tube Episode was Episode 087, where there were seven people on the show: Josh, Kevin, & five guests (Jb Christenson, Gabe Miller, Caleb Klomparens, Garrett Vandenberg, and Solomon Kim). This Episode, although the exact number is disputable, I am officially crediting the Episode with 12 people on the show: Josh & Kevin as hosts, and Gabe Rodriguez, Sarah Iddings, Sampi, Jordan Taylor, Adler Davidson, Christian, Joe Repp, Daniel Elliot, Zachary Fontes, and the Live Studio Audience (counts as one entity for its role in the Intro) as guests. Since I’m the one keeping track, Jeremiah Payne and others do not officially count as separate guests for this episode because their remarks were off-mic, whereas Zach’s remarks were on-mic, which is why he counts for a guest. Of all the guests, only Jordan Taylor had appeared on any other Inner Tube episodes (his appearances were mentioned earlier in this comment section).

Why isn't Jordan in the Inner Circle? I'm sure it's been discussed at some point, but I don't recall hearing the answer.

Reply
Jeff Ross
8/23/2017 04:48:49 pm

This episode gave a couple clues:
1. Jordan doesn't listen to this podcast regularly.
2. Jordan isn't an "up-and-comer" on YouTube because he already has a large subscriber base. All of the Inner Circle members had small subscriber bases when they were inducted.

And here is one more reason, not mentioned in the episode:
3. Josh and Kevin no longer have their channels listed in the Inner Circle. If they aren't in it, then it's hard to make a case that Jordan should be in it.

The main goals of the Inner Circle are to highlight content creators that
1. make great content,
2. are projected to gain a much larger following than they have at the time of induction because of the quality of their work, and
3. are inspired by the Inner Tube.

Jordan doesn't quite fit the criteria, which is why I don't think he's in. Also, Josh and Kevin want the Inner Circle to maintain some exclusivity, so keeping Jordan out is a strong symbol that not just anyone can be inducted in.

Fun fact: The only creators ever to be removed from the Inner Circle are Josh and Kevin. Several other creators in the Inner Circle took long breaks from creating consistent content, but Josh and Kevin still believed in their potential so much that they kept them in the IC. If I recall correctly, Josh and Kevin took themselves out of the IC when Josh decided that Movie Trailer Trash was not a project that he wanted to continue to promote. Kevin had been in the IC since the beginning, but decided to remove himself at the same time.

That was a fun episode. It really was. I think it lived up tube the hype. :D

I don’t know if my comments for this episode did, though. Personally, I liked what I did for Episodes 178 and 179 better. Then again, the goal for this episode’s comments was weighted more on quantity than quality, and I think that I achieved that aspect reasonably well. I don't think I'll post a vast number of comments on an episode for a while after this one, since doing so could take up tube much of my time going forward.
