Great episode. However. I've been using the GoPro Hero 3 as my garage B roll camera for probably a year, and I have to say; Josh saying that you need to use GoPro's app isn't true. Well, not for me. I just checked, and the GoPro saves the video in .mp4. All I do is copy the video directly off the sd card. I rarely use any GoPro app. I suspect that Josh just needed to change a setting.

But I entirely agree with you guys on the use of a GoPro. Its a great tough little camera, and the video is good, for a tough little camera. But I also have a sony handycam that was half the price. To my untrained eye, the handycam has better video, unless you have oodles of light; in which case, they are comparable. But due to the harsh environment of the garage (welding sparks, grinding dust, cutting fluid, objects flying toward the camera) the GoPro is worth it for me. But that's just my two pennies.

Thanks guys for answering my question! And Josh, I did mean the Tascam DR-40. Sorry about that typo.

Cool episode! I've missed A LOT of episodes but getting back into it slowly!

I've used a TASCAM! I think it was the DR-60 (the one that looks like a box), it wasn't my favourite. I always found it recorded the audio too quiet sometimes, even when I went in and increased the recording level. I like the Zoom H4N a lot better. It was just easier to use. But the DR-40 looks way different so it might be better!

Haha when you guys were worried about tech-talk I was like “no keep going”. As someone who is into video, it’s really cool to hear about new stuff I haven’t heard of, hear new opinions/perspectives on things I’ve used.

Also agree with Kevin! The Hero 4 is AWESOME. I used it for some underwater shots in a documentary I was working on and it’s just so smooth. Definitely a big step up.

Thanks again for a great episode :)

Forgot to add! Josh and Kevin! There's a go-pro app now! So you don't need the LCD screen anymore, apparently you can control it with your phone or tablet, which I haven't tried yet, but sounds so much better!
