To the person who asked about animation: you can try Maya as well (paid and highly professional, probably more of an industry standard than Cinema 4D, most animators I know use it, and I know a few). Also 3DS Max is popular.

In the free realm, try Blender. It's very popular and very powerful. Don't let the "free" throw you off, it's open source and frequently improved.

I second Blender. Though 3DS (not the game platform) is my preferred modeling program, Blender is free and, though it is way harder to use, you can't beat free.

I've heard that some people think that Maya is the most powerful animator, and that may be true, but 3DS is the easiest modeler and a pretty good animator, and Blender... well Blender can get the job done if you know how to use it.

Wonderful blog! I found it while surfing around on Yahoo News. Do you have any suggestions on how to get listed in Yahoo News? I’ve been trying for a while but I never seem to get there! Appreciate it.
